Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council strives to educate all residents of Bartholomew, Jackson and Jennings Counties about child abuse and neglect and to promote healthy alternatives and positive parenting practices.
Its "Kids on the Block" program was featured in The Republic newspaper in December, 2011 in an article stressing the importance of talking with children about physical and sexual abuse. (Click here for complete article.) |
Child Abuse Prevention Month Activities
Blue
is the color used nationwide for Child Abuse Prevention activities, so in addition to creating displays at the library and post office, CAP Council participates in both the Blue
Ribbon Campaign and Pinwheels for Prevention to help focus attention on the issue locally. Mike Gamroth and Lindsey Dudley (pictured above) from the Department of Child Services were among those who helped put up ribbons promoting April as Child Abuse Prevention month. The first national Child Abuse Prevention month was in 1983.
